Loei is a part of the country which is very different from most other parts of Thailand. Phu Ruea National Park has one of the highest peaks in the country and because of its height, the temperatures and the cooler climate of the area; conditions are very conducive to the cultivating and producing of fruits, vegetables and flowers, not normally found in this part of the world.

In fact, throughout Loei and in other neighbouring provinces, there are many attractions that can be visited to see this unique produce which includes strawberries, chinese pears, African Violets, Petunias and of course the vital ingredient for wine making is of course grapes, which grow here in abundance.

Loei has been described by some as a small piece of Southern France, in the heart of Asia, and this is certainly true for the Chateau de Loei, who have been producing fine Thai table wines since 1995.

Dr Chaijudh Karnasuta the founder of Chateau De Loei discovered that the Phuruea highlands were ideal for wine producing grapes and in 1995 bottled Thailand’s first commercially produced Thai Table wine.

His wine succeeded and his wine became the first from the country to be exported to Japan and Europe. Even the vineyards logo is named after the Chinese year in which Dr Chaijudh was born, The year of the ‘Rooster’ which in Chinese signifies ‘hard work and dedication’ and this has certainly been the case with Chateau De Loei.

The whole wine producing process takes place at the Vineyard, and tours are arranged for people to visit, see and taste the produce and even buy some to take away and enjoy. The fine Chenin Blanc and Syrah grapes are grown here and using French bottling equipment, the wine is produced and bottled, for local and export markets.

Credit for Chateau De Loei’s product success is partly given to the research undertaken by His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who found that the Phuruea climate, soil and water supply are ideal for the ‘best grape harvest’ that takes place in February and produces the best quality grapes for wine producing at that time.

The fine wines that are produced are fruit based wines, suiting different culinary experiences, Chateau De Loei produces three types of white (Chenin Blanc) and, two reds (Syrah) and one rose (Syrah) all with very distinct flavours and tastes suiting each individuals palette.

Initially designed for the domestic market and now a success Internationally, Chateau De Loei’s wines have added to Thailand’s reputation as a fine nation and an innovator, surprising people worldwide, with the quality of wine produce made.

So next time you make a visit to the Land of Smiles, or your even shopping for a bottle or two to take home for the evening, think of Chateau De Loei and either visit for yourself, or try a taste of this beautifully, scenic part of the world.

Accommodation in Thailand can be very cheap and on the other extreme 5 star but for backpacking you will find there are great low cost options available. No requirement is needed for advance bookings, at almost any time of the year you will find backpacker accommodation options throughout Thailand.

Thailand is an easy place to get around in and there are so many different forms of transport, boats, buses, trains, planes, taxis and almost everything is at very little cost. Costs are definitely much cheaper than most European countries so it is a great place for the European travelers to visit.

On offer in Thailand are great mixtures of cultures as well as amazing forests and trekking options for the Northern parts and you can not miss out on the beautiful beaches in the South of Thailand.

Most travelers will arrive in Bangkok and from there start their journey around the rest of Thailand. From Bangkok the options are to head north for the forests and trekking or head to the South for the beaches and sunshine style of a summer holiday almost all year around.

There are a multitude of things to do in Bangkok as well and wonderful places to visit. Travel around in Bangkok is also easy with the Skyrail and underground and the tourist areas are filled with local travel options such as the tuk tuk. Accommodation again can be found every where in various price ranges and Bangkok generally costs are a little higher and in some areas standards are a little lower but if you are starting out in Bangkok you will find things will only improve.

The backpacking district in Bangkok is an area called Koh San Road and this is the place where the majority of low cost hostels and hotel rooms will be found. There are nightly markets and the food is not expensive. If you can’t last a few days without the comforts of home you will also find that most large cities, as with Bangkok, will have any number of fast food chain options available to you.

Backpackers will when heading to the South usually visit places such as Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. These are probably more the
party areas especially Koh Phangan which is host to the monthly Full Moon parties. During this period there can be some issues with accommodation but often the parties extend on into the early morning and many sleep on the beach. These areas are on the East Coast and
from here the backpackers will often move on to Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket and Khao Lak.

You will find that all areas in the South offer great options for learning to dive or diving if you are already qualified, the cheaper areas generally being on the East Coast. Often there are diving packages on offer that will include your accommodation during the period of the course and these are a great favorite to many potential divers and often this is exactly what options they choose for their accommodation in this area.

At every place you are in Thailand whether it is the North or the South you will find that there are cheap and easy ways to get around and the possibility to purchase your accommodations from start to finish. However as a backpacker you should talk with other travelers and get as many recommendations from them for places to stay as they have done the journey already in many cases. However if you do not book any accommodation and just arrive at your destination within Thailand you will find there will be a multitude of people waiting for you to depart from whatever form of transport you have chosen and they will offer you numerous accommodation choices. These will not always be at the best costs but when you first arrive and especially if it is late then as you have had a few days in Thailand decide how much you are willing to pay and if they give you the right price why not take it.

There are a lot of tips and hints to be found about travel and accommodation in Thailand and the use of travel books and forums and blogs comments from others who have already visit are a great source of education for your trip. Get all the information you can before you go and you will find as a backpacker you can have a great holiday at very little cost. In fact you will probably spend most of your money on your drinking!

The expiration of those incentives at the end of March, 2010 signals a belief that things are improving to the point that help is no longer necessary for real estate in Thailand.

With overall sales growth of 7% in 2009, there is ample reason to believe that the worst is over. One business resource predicts that there will also be a sustained 7%/year growth over the next five years in Thailand building and construction. It is estimated that 500 semi-completed building projects are coming back online. Thai laws relating to foreign ownership of real estate are complex, so a real estate experienced attorney should be consulted. Condominiums are the most popular purchases, but regular homes can be found, and some even work with construction companies to build a home. This allows taking advantage of bargain labor and material costs.

While bargain purchases can be found in Thailand, mortgage financing is likely to be problematic, with 50% financing a common number when a mortgage can be found. Some foreign buyers are getting funding in their home countries and transferring the funds to Thailand for their real estate purchase. Taxes and fees vary from 3% to 5% or more in a transaction. It’s a beautiful country, and these challenges are not deterrents to foreign buyers. The expectation is for more foreign buyer activity in the future.

The expiration of the tax and fee incentives will result in price increases as builders and developers pass on their increased costs. The extra cost will be around 4% for builders and developers. How much is passed along will likely be influenced by competition in the market. There is a great deal of new activity, so analysts expect that some builders will absorb some or all of the cost increases in order to better compete in the marketplace. The Thailand real estate market is in a rebound, and it’s not likely that tax changes of this magnitude will have an appreciable negative impact on the brighter future ahead.

The Thai cuisine is very famous worldwide as it constitutes amazing blend of aquatic animals, plants and herbs. One can find all the five elementary tastes: sweet, spice, bitter, salty and sour. While tasting the popular Thai dishes you will find lime juice, garlic, chilies, lemon grass and fish sauce as common ingredients. Basically the distinctiveness of Thailand Food depends upon, by whom it is cooked and for what occasion it is cooked. One can see a little influence of Chinese cuisine on Thailand Food.

Rice is one of the principle food ingredients that is omnipresent in all kind of Thailand Food. The jasmine rice and sticky rice are the kinds of the rice taken by Thai people. The fresh herbs are used while preparing Thailand Food as it increase the quality of the aroma of the food. A single time meal consists of a hot cup of soup, a curry dish with condiments, a dip accompanying fish and vegetables. Also you can add some spice salad to the meals to make it heavier. The balance of spicy taste is maintained by the cooks while serving the spicy and non spicy dishes. For desserts you can enjoy the Thai sweets and fresh fruits.

The tools utilized normally by Thai people to have their meals are spoons and forks. Thailand has maximum number of Buddhist population, so one can see the impact of Buddhism in Thailand Food. The Thailand Food is served with roasted duck or pork topped on it. In that case one needs to have a fork obviously. If you are having a noodle soup then you can have it with the help of chopsticks too. One can see the influence of Chinese, Indian and Japanese styles in Thailand food culture.

Thai people are usually fond of eating rice with their meal and therefore whenever you stay with a Thai family, then be very cautious because you might end up putting on too much weight. Tastes of Thai Food can be amended to suit individual desire. All those who have eaten exotic Thai Food will in no way fail to order them again whenever their preferred dish is available.

Bangkok, Thailand is known for its open canals. This is used for various open water activities, and you can find floating houses here, which will certainly make you wonder how do these houses remain floating? At the same time, you can also shop in Thailand’s open canals, indeed a very bright and original way to do your shopping. Thailand makes an effort to preserve its wildlife resources and its animal and plant species. While being ardent in protecting them, you can enjoy and relish their company through the Tarutao Marine National Park. You must not forget to visit here while you’re in Thailand.

There are 400 Buddhist temples in Bangkok, Thailand, but Wat Arun is one of those temples which are most notable. This is because of its modern architectural design, and at the same time, its unique distinction from others. A portion of the temple contains images of Buddha’s life. In the Island of Ko Samui, Thailand lays a world-famous statue of Buddha. This statue stands 12 m or 29 feet tall and is most notable for the bright colors with which it is portrayed. You must visit this religious place situated in an island not far from Thailand’s capital.

A world famous site is the Grand Palace, Bangkok. The Grand Palace is a complex of royal buildings where royalty in Thailand lives; however, only one complex, the Wat Phra Kaeo, is open to tourists. The Grand Palace is a place you must visit in Thailand. As the people in Thai call the sport, “Muay Thai,” it is something you definitely should not miss – whether by actual experience or by watching. Thai boxing is actually a very historic sport throughout the history of Thailand, even having royal and religious roots. Thai boxing in Thailand can never be the same as in other places.

There are a variety of unique theater experiences you can have in Thailand. Two such examples are Khon and Nang Yai. Khon is a dramatization of Thailand’s myths and ancient tales, while Nang Yai, on the other hand, is portrayed through puppets of shadows. Suan Pakkad Palace is the perfect place for you to go if you want to have a look at traditional houses in Thailand. Also, in Suan Pakkad Palace, there are art collections which you might want to go to. This is a tourist destination that will suit an art lover’s taste.

Vimameck Mansion is graced for being the largest teakwood mansion in the world. What Thailand did was to turn Vimameck Mansion into a museum as well. Because of this, you not only get to see the mansion but you also get to see artifacts exhibited in the museum. A visit to Bangkok shall not be complete without going to the National Museum. Chronicled in the National Museum is practically the history of Bangkok presented through artifacts from before up to the modern pieces of contemporary art. You will surely get to have the feel of Thailand through the National Museum.

Thailand is in south-east Asia, bordering Malaysia to the south, Myanmar (Burma) to the north, and Cambodia and Laos to the east. It benefits from coastal stretches both in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Thailand. Thailand is a popular country to visit – Bangkok is a 24-hour city with hotels to match whilst smaller cities and coastal resorts have also made the most of the constant tourist trade. Travellers are becoming more sophisticated, however, which has resulted in a number of boutique hotels opening to cater for the discerning guest. For those who love the beach, try the luxury of Aleenta; a small, private beach hotel which houses just 17 suites and 2 private villas.

With unspoilt beach on your doorstep, an infinity pool and romantic breakfast and dinner settings, beach-life rarely gets better. Alternatively, go for the lights and sounds of Bangkok, where you could stay at the Ibrik City; a very chic hotel right in the middle of the business district and next to the famous “Blue Elephant” cooking school. With just three rooms, this is a modern yet homely hotel and great transport connections mean that this boutique hotel is the ideal base for days and nights in Bangkok.

Thailand is renowned for its ancient monuments, stupas and temples. From the sheer architectural delight of the Phimai Temple, a Hindu/Buddhist temple, to the ancient stupas in the Sukothai Historical Park, there’s much to learn about civilisations hundreds and thousands of years old and the way they affect the people of Thailand today. Don’t miss the busy and colourful markets either, and make sure that you spend time sampling the fabulous food for which Thailand is so well known. Venture away from the beaches to the rivers and mountains of Thailand’s interior to sample a simpler way of life, or take in the energy of Bangkok with a city visit.

In Thailand, you can hire a car to get around, but it may be easier to take the train. Bangkok city is serviced by a Sky train and boat service, so there’s no need for any other transport to get you around. Outside Bangkok and closer to the coast, use the buses and trains to get about. The trains may be slower than you’re used to, but they’re comfortable. On the other hand, the buses are fast and furious, but they are cheap and air-conditioned.

Thailand is large and diverse with a large selection of travel and holiday options. If you want an exotic trip, why not choose Thailand? Though it might be costlier than heading to southern California or Miami, you’ll have memories (and photographs!) that will wow your friends and family for years to come.

As you plan your priceless journey, just remember to keep a few factors in mind:

* Learn about Thai food

When you get to Thailand, you’ll no doubt be trying a great deal of Asian cuisine. Thus, it would behoove you to try some of the more common Thai dishes before you set off on your journey. If you live near a large city, you no doubt have access to any number of Thai restaurants.

* Dress for the temperature and weather conditions

Because the Internet affords you the opportunity to find out about weather anywhere in the world, make sure you jump online during the days before you leave for your visit to Thailand. That way, you’ll know exactly what to pack (and what not to wear). Nothing is worse than being in a country where you don’t know the language and are feeling physically uncomfortable because you’re dressed inappropriately.

* Go to your doctor

Before traveling overseas, it’s best for you to get a full physical at your doctor. Your physician may prescribe a variety of shots or suggestions for healthy eating regimens while you’re in Thailand. Make sure you bring a notepad and jot down all his or her comments.

* Get your passport in advance

Many people traveling to countries such as Thailand forget to order their passports until too late. In all the excitement, this important “to do” is entirely forgotten.

Rather than waiting until the last minute, make sure that you get your passport immediately, because it can take some time to receive in the mail. In fact, you might even want to get your passport before you book your flights to and from Thailand, just to be on the safe side.

By taking a few precautions, you can ensure that your time in Thailand will be well-spent and will result in a meaningful vacation.
